This prayer is the opening line in every Islamic prayer and was prescribed by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). It is believed that the universe is the physical representation of Allah’s will. Everything that surrounds us is the greatness of Allah. We may marvel at the technological inventions made by us but they do not compare to the human mind. This sacred sound develops our inner self and has the potential to awaken our soul by invoking the blessings of Allah continuously. This can lead to the unearthing of the total human potential. The spiritual role of the prayer is great, as it takes help from Hazrat Izra’il, the angel of death and resurrection. By reciting this, Hazrat Izra’il may awaken our soul, and it is then possible to see the greatness of Allah.
