Swami Rama Tirtha was a 19th century Indian teacher of the philosophy of Vedanta. Here’s a spiritual poem on depending on the Infinite.
Passage
On foes and friend
I won’t depend.
I won’t recline
on shows divine
For bodily health,
or earthly wealth
What care I?
My Love and I
To the seeming things
I will not cling
These forms of dress-
Mere pawns of chess
I’ll see them all
not moved at all.
There, that and this
I will not miss
My Love is found,
it’s all around.
Oh! Him I trust
Love Him I must
The One in plurality
The only Reality
My all in all
On Him I call!
My friend so true
My chela, Guru
My father, child,
My fireside
My husband, wife,
My self, my life
My only right
The Light of lights.
